Shirley Jackson
CELEBRATION of LIFE

Shirley Jackson is the eldest of eleven children born to Lillie Mae Mitchell and Charlie Daniels on May 25, 1938 in Savannah, Georgia.
In 1958, she married Lorenza Jackson, Sr. their union was blessed with three children: Marva Jean, Gwendelyn and Lorenza, Jr. Being married to an Air Force serviceman, the family traveled as far as Japan and Hawaii in addition to many places within the contiguous United States.
Ms. Jackson held positions in varied organizations, such as Loring Air Force Base, Breck, The Ivy Shop and Packaged Machinery. Ultimately, she was self-employed as a "domestic engineer" as she confidently touted, where she established loving relationships with her clients-turned-family.
She loved gardening, cooking, animals and nature. Out of her love for and devotion to the Lord and her local church, she was a deaconess at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Springfield, Massachusetts, where some would lovingly refer to her as "Sister Holy Ghost" because she was so full of life, a spirit of worship and faith.
Inside and outside of church, Shirley touched many lives and left an amazing, indelible mark on all with whom she made contact. For some, she is thought of as a "superwoman" who was always seeing a need as an opportunity to serve. As a mother to many, she is considered a "living hallmark card" always ready with a big hug, kiss and words of encouragement.
Cherishing her memory are: daughter, Gwendelyn; son, Lorenza; grandchildren; great grandchildren; siblings; nephews; nieces; cousins; and a host of extended family and friends.
Family and friends will gather on Saturday, March 25, for a period of visitation from 10-11 a.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 368 Bay St., Springfield, MA 01109, followed by a Mass at 11 a.m. in the church. Her burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, please consider monetary donations to “The Celebration of Life Fund” PO Box 89134, Atlanta, GA 30302 or to plantable garden donations to the church.
