On Friday, June 11, 2021 Douglas James Martin, longtime resident of Springfield and beloved husband, of 21 years, of Deborah A. (Moore) Martin, passed away peacefully at his home in Springfield at the age of 66. Doug was born on May 7, 1955, in Milo, Maine, son of Sterling D. and Irene (Burgoyne) Martin. He was raised and educated in Middlefield, CT, and graduated from Coginchaug Regional High School in Durham, CT. Doug was a self-employed exterior and interior painter, for over 35 years. He was a member of the Moose Club in Chicopee and loved to camp and fish. He fished everywhere and camped all throughout New England. He had great presence and lit up a room wherever he went. Doug was able to capture an audience with his skills as a storyteller and with his humor. He leaves behind his loving wife, Deborah of Springfield, sisters, Roxanne Albert and her husband, Richard, of East Haddam, CT, Kristine Ruitto and her husband, Joseph, of Portland, CT, and Cynthia Coleman and her husband, John of Plantsville, CT, several nieces, Rebecca, Erica, Rene, Erin, Shannon, and Colleen, and two nephews, Raymond and Kevin, and his canine friend, Watson. Family and friends are invited to gather on Friday, June 18, for a period of visitation from 10 – 11 a.m. at Hafey Funeral Service, 494 Belmont Ave., followed by a service at 11 a.m. in the funeral home.
