Elizabeth Alice (Herlihy) Patty, 85, beloved wife of Melvin T. Patty who predeceased her in 1990, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 9, 2019 at the Soldiers Home of Holyoke, with her loving son, Thomas, and daughter, Alice at her side. Elizabeth was born on June 11, 1934, in Hartford, CT, daughter of William and Alice (Pothul) Herlihy. She was raised and educated in Springfield and was a graduate of the former Classical High School. Elizabeth served her country honorably in the United States Marine Corps. After her service in the Marine Corps, she returned to Springfield and worked for the Telephone Company and then began a long career as a mail handler with the U.S. Postal Service before retiring from the Bulk Mail Center. Elizabeth was a very generous and loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was blessed with great intelligence and was a natural protector of her family. Elizabeth in her personal time enjoyed playing bingo at various places throughout the city as well as the Soldiers’ Home. Elizabeth leaves behind her loving children, M. Thomas Patty and his wife, Cheryl, of Walpole, NH, Alice Grandmont and her husband, Dan of Rindge, NH, and James Michael Patty and his wife Lynne of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, brother, William Herlihy of St. Augustine, FL; her cherished grandchildren, Thomas, Merilee, Sarah, Kyle, Drew, James, Jennifer, and Shawn, and great grandchildren, Brody, Nola, Camdon, Lucas, Dylan, Finn, and Mark. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her son Mark David Patty and grandson, Nicholas. A Celebration of Life will be held for Elizabeth at a later date.
