Geddes "Butch" Franklin Vaughn died peacefully surrounded by family on April 4, 2020 at his home in Springfield, Massachusetts.
Butch was born on December 2, 1943, in Spartanburg, South Carolina. He graduated High School in 1963 and enlisted in the United States Air Force that summer. During his 21 year career as an Air Force professional, Butch was part of a Civil Engineering Red Horse team and a base Communications squadron but his favorite assignment was being a Crew Chief on the B-52 Bomber during the Vietnam War. Over the span of his active duty career, Butch and his family were reassigned 9 times both stateside and overseas.
Butch is survived by wife Mary, his daughter Terri Marsich and her husband, Scott Marsich, his son, Matthew Vaughn and his wife, Jessica Vaughn, six grandchildren including Sean, Danielle, Matthew, Julius, Jordan and Terceira, and his two great grandchildren Victoria and Noah.
Besides spending time with his family, Butch had a passion for military history, genealogy, the Boston Red Sox and his Patriots. He was quick with a corny joke and could make anyone smile or laugh, right up until his last days. He'll be gravely missed by anyone who was fortunate enough to know him. Anyone who did know him will surely miss his signature peace sign and his phrase......"Peace."
Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of life gathering and services to be scheduled at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675-8516. www.hafeyfuneralservice.com
