Gloria McCauley, age 93, died Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at JGS Lifecare in Longmeadow, MA. She was predeceased by her husband, Hugh, half-brothers Don and Kendall, and parents Ernest and Genevieve. She leaves behind her children, Hugh Kevin, Dennis, Patrick and Maureen as well as a host of remaining friends including her high school buddies Yonnie, Marg, and Lucille. Born in Queens, New York, she was raised in Woodhaven, Richmond Hill and Forest Hills areas of New York. After graduating from Franklin K. Lane High School in NY, she attended and graduated from Hunter College in Manhattan. After college, she worked at Macy's Herald Square in the 1940's; later that decade she worked in a blood bank, where, after the war, she met and married her husband of 38 years, the soon-to-be pathologist Dr. Hugh McCauley. After marriage she resided in Richmond Hill, then to Des Moines, Iowa, East Meadow and Roslyn, NY, and Glen Cove, NY before becoming a long-time resident of Longmeadow, MA. Gloria was a true athlete who was a lifetime excellent tennis player with a deadly drop shot and superb backhand who enjoyed both singles and doubles play until she was 88. She was also a long-term avid golfer and enjoyed bowling in her later years. She enjoyed her family, travel, opera and food. She was a long term member of the Longmeadow Investment Club and Bridge Club. She volunteered at the Mercy Hospital gift shop and the Longmeadow Senior Center and enjoyed the French and Trivia Clubs at the Center. Gloria did not let grass grow under her feet; she was always moving and doing and was a true lover of her life. Her quick wit and beautiful laugh will be sorely missed. All services for Gloria are private. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to JGS Lifecare in Longmeadow, MA., Tufts Medical School or a visiting nurse agency of your choice.
