Helen Y. (St. Marie) Morneau

Helen Yvette (St. Marie) Morneau, beloved wife, of 70 years, of Gerard L. Morneau who predeceased her on January 23, 2017, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 20, at her home in Springfield at the age of 94. Helen was born on November 2, 1926, in Springfield, MA a daughter of Nelson and Rhea (Peloquin) St. Marie. She was raised and educated in Springfield and was a graduate of Technical High School. Helen later received her degree as a licensed Hairstylist. At one time, she was past president of the Twins Club and enjoyed raising Shetland Sheep Dogs. Helen enjoyed cooking and loved to listen to all types of music, while enjoying a glass of Cabernet. She was a talented musician who played by ear. Her favorite instruments were the accordion and piano. Along with her husband, Gerry, she traveled twice across the country, visiting many of the National Parks and a memorable trip to Calgary, Canada. Helen was a lifetime parishioner of Holy Cross Church in Springfield. She was a devoted and dedicated wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother. Her family will miss her calm and enduring strength that always prevailed over difficult times. Helen leaves her seven loving daughters, Jeannette Morneau of Springfield, twins, Yvette Delvecchio of Springfield and Yvonne Cormier of West Springfield, Diane Duquette of California, Denise Korfhage of Louisville, KY, Lillian Buettner and her husband, Richard and Colette Iampietro and her husband, Steve all of Somers, CT, brother, Robert St. Marie of East Springfield, 13 cherished grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her beloved daughter, Michele Melberg in 2004, brother, Nelson St. Marie and sister, Jeannette Tromblay. The family wishes to thank Diane Sherry, Kathy, Rosa, and all the caregivers for all their kind and compassionate care given to their mother, Helen. Family and friends are invited to gather directly on Monday, June 7, at 11:30 a.m. at Holy Cross Church, 221 Plumtree Rd., Springfield for Helen’s Mass of Christian Burial. Committal prayers and burial will follow immediately after the Mass at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. There are no calling hours.
