Iluminada Figueroa-Merced, 74, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 9, in the comfort of her own home with her loving family at her side.
Iluminada was born on November 27, 1944, in Cidra, Puerto Rico, a loving daughter of Luis Figueroa and Maria Merced.
She was raised and educated in Puerto Rico, before becoming a longtime resident of Springfield.
Iluminada leaves behind her loving husband 56 years, Martin Hernandez of Springfield, and her daughters, Elizabeth Robles and her husband, Edwin, Lysette Supersad and her husband, Ken, Iluminada Navaro and her husband, Nicholas, and Maritza Hernandez all of Springfield; sisters, Rosita Vasquez of Holyoke, Maria Vasquez of Springfield, and Irma Vasquez of Holyoke; eight cherished grandchildren, Nicholas, Alexy, Kendra, Saleena, Cristina, Marianna, Kayla, and Jennifer, and six great grandchildren, Sophia, Jameson, Selena, Gabriel, Zadrian, and Anayaleis; and many extended family members and close friends. She was predeceased by her son, Martin Hernandez, Jr. in 1993.
A period of visitation will be held for Iluminada on Friday, May 17, from 4-7 p.m. at Hafey Funeral Home, 494 Belmont Avenue, Springfield, MA 01108. A funeral home service celebrating her life will follow immediately after the visitation at 7 p.m.
