On Sunday, May 9, 2021, James Alfred Johnson, beloved brother, uncle, and friend passed away peacefully at his home in East Longmeadow at the age of 68. James was born in Springfield, MA, on October 1, 1952, a son of Joseph Alfred and Mary A. (O’Rourke) Johnson. He was raised and educated in the Forest Park section of Springfield, an honorary member of the X guys, and a graduate of Technical High School. James later served his country honorably and faithfully in the U.S. Coast Guard obtaining the rank of Fire Marshal and running the Baltimore Harbor. After his service in the Coast Guard, he returned home, living in Chicopee for a period of time and most recently in East Longmeadow. James was currently a supervisor at Golden Years in East Longmeadow. He was a master painter and was a former bartender. He was a phenomenal diver and swimmer and loved to golf whenever and wherever. Among other interests, he loved to travel and watch movies. James leaves behind his brothers, William “Billy” P. Johnson and his wife, Jackie Forcucci of Chatham, NY and Alfred “Alfie” J. Johnson of Hampton, NH, sister Mary Rose Sitek and her husband, Barry of Agawam, nephews, Joseph A. Johnson of Northampton, Nicholas William Johnson of New York City, and Seth Robert Johnson of Mechanicville, NY, niece, Tracy Sitek, and many dear friends. Family and friends are invited to gather on Thursday, May 13, for visitation for James from 4-7 p.m. at Hafey Springfield Chapels, 494 Belmont Ave., followed by a service at 7 p.m. in the funeral home.
