Tribute

Jean Fraser, 87 of Longmeadow passed away Weds June 17 after a brief illness. Born in Melrose MA, she grew up in Wakefield and graduated from Wakefield High School in 1950. She attended Kathryn Gibbs Secretarial School and then worked for Kidder Peabody Co. in Boston for several years. She married Bruce Fraser in 1959. She was a fill in secretary for the Springfield, Virginia School System and after moving to Longmeadow in 1970, was employed as a part time and later full-time secretary in the Longmeadow School System. After retiring she attended Holyoke Community College where she earned an Associate’s Degree in 1988. Jean liked to donate and support many causes. JDRF, Public Radio and Television as well as the MSPCA to name a few. She also volunteered her time as a driver for the Longmeadow Council on Aging, Meals on Wheels program. On two occasions, while making a delivery, she found residents who had fallen in their homes and summoned help. Some of her favorite activities later in life were playing in her bridge group, getting together with the retired secretary’s group from the Longmeadow School System and going to Red Sox’s games with her best and lifelong friend Marion Wright. She was also a member of the First Church of Christ in Longmeadow for many years. She took good health seriously. She was a year-round outdoor walker and enjoyed going to yoga and stretching classes at the Senior Center. Jean was preceded in death by her brother William Rattray III of Florida and is survived by her former husband Bruce Fraser of Brewster, MA, two sons; Andrew and his wife, Rachel, of East Longmeadow and David and Lynette of Westfield. Jean had four granddaughters Kristen, Kayla, Elizabeth and Abigail. The funeral will be private due to the state restrictions on gatherings.  The family would like to thank the staff at the Atrium in Agawam and Ascend Hospice for their loving care and support.
