Joan C. (Roy) Footit, longtime resident of Springfield and later Longmeadow, MA passed away Wednesday, April 14th at the age of 92. Joan was born July 13th, 1928 in Springfield, MA, the daughter of Joseph E. and Laura (Morrier) Roy. She was a graduate of Classical High School and received her Bachelor of Science degree from Our Lady of the Elms College. While teaching kindergarten at Jefferson Street School, Joan met the love and support of her life, Richard J. Footit. They had 8 children followed by 19 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Joan is remembered as extremely gentle, loving, and accepting. Her welcoming smile was heartwarming. There was never a dull moment in her household – off to the cottage, the cape, country auctions or skiing in Vermont. The station wagon was always packed with family members as well as many friends. She had an unparalleled love for a good game, especially bridge. When surrounded by doting family, all would love to hear her sing a silly song, followed by children’s laughter. Joan was a true teacher of happiness and kindness. She was blessed with many lifelong friends and an adoring family who meant everything to her. Joan was predeceased by her beloved husband, Richard J. Footit in 2018; her son, James Footit in 2020; three brothers, Alan, Philip and Donald Roy; son-in-law, John Howes and grandchild, Allison Mary. She will be dearly missed by her seven children, Elaine Howes and Donald Mientka, Rosemary and William Lanigan, Patricia and John Real, William and Faith Footit, John and Gina Footit, Mary and John Gentile, and Paul and Barbara Footit, and James wife Cathrine, Marguerite Footit, Susan and Chester Szetela, Terry Footit. Joan also leaves her grandchildren, Emily, Laura, Hannah, Sean, Kelsey, Julia, Mathew, Jeffrey, Tayler, Christopher, Douglas, Briana, Sarah, Marie, Anna, Olivia, Elizabeth, Mara, Amy.
