John Francis Heffner

April 14, 1936 ~ September 9, 2018 (age 82)

John Francis Heffner, 82, beloved husband of 53 years of Doris Agnes (Pelletier) Heffner, who predeceased him in 2016, passed away on Sunday, September 9, in the comfort of his own home with his loving family at his side. John was born on April 14, 1936 in Springfield, MA, a loving son of Charles A. and Anna (Geisel) Heffner; he was a lifelong resident of Springfield and a graduate of Springfield Trade. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Army as a Specialist Third Class. Upon returning to Springfield, John held a long career of over thirty five years with Moore Drop Forge, later known as the Danaher Tool Group, as a repairman and foreman, before his full retirement.  John was a very hard working and determined individual, who provided well for his family. He took great pride in his craftsmanship that he put into the tools he made. Along with tool making, John enjoyed wood working, camping and fishing and enjoyed the great outdoors. John will be dearly missed by his five children, Laurie A. Heffner of Longmeadow, Jacqueline L. Heffner  of Springfield, John F. and his wife Cynthia of Lakeland, FL, James M. and his wife Kelly of Springfield, William C. of Ware, MA, and Cynthia Miller of Longmeadow; 12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to meet for a period of visitation on Thursday, Sept. 13, from 9 – 10:30 AM at the Hafey Springfield Chapels, 494 Belmont Ave., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 AM at Holy Name Church, 323 Dickinson St., Springfield. Committal prayers and burial with military honors will be in St. Michael’s Cemetery in Springfield.
