Kathleen B. Murphy, beloved wife, of 48 years, of Daniel Murphy who predeceased her in 2000, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 1, at the Jewish Nursing Home in Longmeadow at the age of 89. Kathleen was born on May 30, 1932, in Springfield, MA, a daughter of Abraham L. and Catherine (Leahy) Bryant. She was raised and educated in Springfield and was a graduate of Cathedral High School.
Kathleen was a longtime resident of Franconia Street in Springfield. And after her husband’s passing, she enjoyed living at Brownstone Gardens in East Longmeadow with her newly found extended family. She was a founding member of St. Paul the Apostle Church in Springfield. Of all her interests, her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the most special to her. Her family wishes to express their gratitude toward Dr. Murray and his assistant, Liz for their kind and compassionate care given to Kathleen over the years.
She leaves behind her loving children, Daniel J. Murphy and his wife, Cindy (Sheridan) of West Springfield, Patrick J. Murphy of Holyoke, Mary Anne Whitney and her husband Richard, and Catherine Murphy all of Springfield; her cherished grandchildren, Julie Ryan and her husband, Chris, and their three daughters, Mikayla, McKenzie, and Madison, all of East Longmeadow, Christina Witherspoon, Michael Murphy, Theresa Bendzinski, Sam Whitney, Matt and Joe Streeter, Gina Murphy, and Sarah Whitney, and 7 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and many cousins and extended family members in Ireland. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her son, Stephen G. Murphy in 2020.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Thursday, August 5, for calling hours for Kathleen from 4-7 p.m. at Hafey Springfield Chapels, 494 Belmont Ave. Her funeral will be held on Friday, August 6, beginning at 9:00 a.m. from the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael’s Church 128 Maple St., East Longmeadow. Burial for Kathleen will be private at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Springfield.
