Marcella Weldon Hopkins, 92, passed away December 7, 2018 at home in Glenmeadow. Born in Springfield to the late Joseph T. and Marianna Weldon, she was a longtime Springfield resident, enjoying many wonderful years on Perkins Street. Marcella was predeceased by her beloved husband, George “Bud” Lincoln Hopkins in 1996, after 46 years of marriage. Marcella devoted her life to her husband and her six children. As a family they spent many wonderful summers at the beaches on Cape Cod. Marcella was a true friend to many, and everyone “just loved her.” She was a parishioner of Holy Cross Church in Springfield for over 30 years, where she was an active participant in the Catholic Women’s Club. After her children were grown, Marcella enjoyed her time as a travel guide which allowed her to enjoy many adventures all over the world. But most importantly, she was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She will be dearly missed by her five devoted children, Marcella “Marcy” Beane and her partner Robert “Bob” Sullivan of Longmeadow, Susan D. Wall of Hudson, MA, Nancy Hopkins Kramer and her husband Alan H. Kramer, Esq. of Acton, MA, Stephen Weldon Hopkins of Cumberland, RI and his partner, Katherine Humphrey of Longmeadow and George W. Hopkins of Flowery Branch, GA; two sisters, Dorothy Dorn of Florham Park, NJ and Kathleen Penter of Corona, CA; nine adored grandchildren, Brandon, Kailin, Matthew, Cara, Michael, Sarah, Anna, Bailey and Emma; six great grandchildren, Anthony, Miguel, Logan, Cassandra, Zachary and Colton; an abundance of beloved nieces and nephews; many dear friends including those from Perkins Street and her loving and faithful caregivers who were her angels on earth, especially Mary and Audrey and the staff of Glenmeadow at Home. Besides her beloved husband, Bud, she was predeceased by her daughter, Mary Jane Mayuski in 2016; three sisters, Anne Denny, Frances Shea and Alice Teixeira and brother, Joseph Weldon. Family and friends are invited to meet for calling hours on Monday, December 10, 2018 from 4PM-7PM at the Hafey Springfield Chapels, 494 Belmont Ave., Springfield. Marcella’s funeral ceremony will be held Tuesday December 11, 2018 starting at 9:45 AM at the funeral home, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 AM at Holy Cross Church, 221 Plumtree Road, Springfield. Burial will be held for the family at a later date in St. Michael’s Cemetery in Springfield.
