Marie E. Rogers

September 9, 1946 ~ March 9, 2017 (age 70)
Marie E. (Peterson) Rogers, 70, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 9, at Wingate at Hampden with her beloved daughter, Jeannette at her side. Born on September 9, 1946, in Holyoke, MA, a daughter of Homer and Pauline (Sorrell) Peterson, she was a longtime resident of Springfield, before residing in Ludlow. Marie was a homemaker, wonderful wife and mother! She was very active at her church until diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. She was a member of Heritage Baptist Church in Springfield, MA. She was a Sunday School Teacher and sang in the choir and volunteered in many other ministries. Marie loved the Lord Jesus Christ and made sure she raised her children to love Him as well. She loved to sing and her favorite hymn was “The Old Rugged Cross”. She was never ashamed to tell others about the Lord and how much He loved her. Her hobbies were crafts and crocheting. She also loved to cook and bake. Marie will always be remembered for her delicious apple pies and cinnamon twists. No one ever went hungry when they came for a visit. The most important thing she will be remembered for is her sweet spirit! She endured many struggles from childhood through her last days, but rarely complained. Marie always thought of others before herself. Even during her last days, the words “I love you” could be heard to all who visited, including nursing staff, family and friends. For all who knew her, you couldn’t leave her presence without a smile! To Meme’ Ree, you will be missed but never forgotten! Until we see you again in glory. “We love you too!” Marie leaves behind to cherish her memory her loving husband, David L. Rogers of Ludlow and children, Jeannette Smith and her husband, James of Ludlow, David Rogers of Fall River, Michael Rogers and his wife, Carolyn of Colorado Springs, CO, and Robert Rogers and his fiancée, Letti, of North Carolina; and by two adored granddaughters, Audra Smith, who is currently at West Coast Baptist College and Amelia Smith of Ludlow; her sister, Diane and brother, Peter. In addition to her parents, Marie was also predeceased by her sisters, Connie and Carol and her brother, Harvey. Family and friends are invited to gather directly on Monday, March 20, at 10 a.m. for Marie’s committal service in the chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St., Agawam. There are no calling hours. Hafey Funeral Service has been entrusted with Marie’s arrangements. For further information please visit
