Marlene Mary (Jones) Horowitz, 80, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 1, 2018 with the comfort of her family being at her side at Redstone Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in East Longmeadow. Marlene was born on May 7, 1937, in Holyoke, MA, daughter of Carl E. and Florence L. Jones. She was raised and educated in Springfield, MA. She was the beloved wife of 33 years of Barton N. Horowitz who predeceased her in 1999. Marlene was the owner and operator of the former X Bowling Lanes at the X in Springfield, before selling the business in 1984. Marlene then began a long career that spanned over many years at Riverside Park in Agawam, now known as Six Flags.  She started with a small job in concessions, and from there Human Resources and then became Area Manager of the Foods Department. Following her retirement, she moved to Lake Worth, Florida where she worked as General Manager of Murray’s Palm Beach Diner, before returning to Springfield in 1998. Marlene was a longtime communicant of Holy Name Church in Springfield and over the years she enjoyed playing bingo, visiting the casino, cruises and especially spending time with her adored grandchildren. Marlene will be missed dearly by her three loving children, David Horowitz and his wife Darlene of Longmeadow; Mark Horowitz and his wife Antonia of Kearny, NJ and Lynn Wilson and her husband Michael of Middletown, CT; two grandchildren, Nicholas and Natalie Horowitz of Longmeadow; several nieces, nephews and cousins, many dear friends at Inward Commons in East Longmeadow and lifelong friend, Carmen Burroughs of East Longmeadow. Besides her parents and loving husband, Barton, she was predeceased by her brother, James E. Jones, and dearest friends Joyce Griffin and Elsie Brennan. Family and friends are invited to meet for Marlene’s funeral Mass on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at 12 noon at Holy Name Church, 323 Dickinson St., Springfield. There are no calling hours and burial will be private for the family at a later date.
