Moira Barrett passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 22nd, surrounded by her family. She was born in Dublin, Ireland to the late William C. and Annie (Costello) Murphy. Moira was a communicant of Holy Name Church in Springfield. She spent her professional career working with and for children at Holy Name School and as a paraprofessional in the Springfield Public Schools. She is deeply missed by her daughter, Geraldine Barrett, her son Hugh Barrett, Jr. and his wife Maureen and her granddaughters, Jacqueline Murphy and Ava Simone. She is pre-deceased by her husband of 37 years Hugh Barrett, Sr. and her brother, Liam Murphy and his wife Maureen (Finnegan) Murphy of Dublin Ireland. She was also predeceased by her sister’s-in-law, Marcella (Barrett) Moran and her husband Francis, Anne “Trit” (Barrett) Hanson and her husband Raymond, Margaret Barrett, Beatrice Barrett and by her brother-in-law, Dominick Barrett and his wife Cora (Thorpe) Barrett. She will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, family members and many dear friends in America and back home in Ireland. Moira will be remembered for her graciousness, her warmth of spirit and for always having the door open and a ready cup of tea for visitors. Family and friends are invited to meet on Thursday, July 26th at 9 AM at the Hafey Springfield Chapels, 494 Belmont Ave., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 AM at Holy Name Church, 323 Dickinson St., Springfield. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Springfield. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, July 25th from 4-7 PM at the funeral home.
