At the age of 96, Patricia (Phillips) Choquette has passed away at Vero Health and Rehab of Hampden, MA due to COVID 19 complications. Patricia grew up in Columbus, Ohio on the campus of Ohio State University where, as a 4H member she won numerous awards. With her husband Norman, she moved to Springfield, MA to raise their family.
Patricia worked at American International College in the Business Office and was very much involved in Square Dancing with her husband Norman until his death in 1988. They were married for 42 years.
In 1988, she retired from AIC and worked at Springfield Municipal hospital. She then began to travel the world extensively, lawn bowled (winning a lawn bowling championship at the Senior Olympics), volunteered at Holy Name Bingo and remained constantly active until the effects of dementia slowed her down.
Patricia was extremely interested in genealogy. She had traced her family lineage to several families that had fought in the American Revolutionary War and subsequently obtained membership into the Daughters of the American Revolution. She also traced her ancestry through more than twenty separate families back to their immigration to this country prior to 1700. She was very proud that her heritage formed the very foundation of this country.
In addition to her husband Norman, Patricia was predeceased by her parents Thomas and Mozelle Phillips, her sister Mozelle and her husband Berman, her brother Thomas, her sister-in-law Elaine Phillips, her brother-in-law Paul Mooney and her great grandson Norman James McClurg.
Patricia leaves behind her children Ann (former husband Joseph), Roger (Janice), Richard (Naomi), Robert (Mary-Ann), her caretaker John (Lynn), David (Diane) and Peter (Suzanne). She also leaves behind her brother John, sister-in-laws Margaret Phillips and Carol Mooney.
Additionally she is survived by her Grandchildren Brian Choquette, Heather Driscoll, Meagan McClurg (Jared), Jessica Driscoll, Vanessa Choquette, Cheryl Thibodeau (Jeff), Tracey Jacob (Jason), Samantha Schmitt (Eric), Anthony Choquette (fiancée Katy), Christopher Choquette (Mary), and Michael Choquette. Patricia leaves behind six Great Grandchildren Liam Driscoll, Charlotte Thibodeau, William and Christopher Jacob, Emerson Schmitt and Owen McClurg. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and extended family.
The family would like to extend appreciation to the staff at both Vero Health and Rehab of Hampden, MA and East Longmeadow Wingate for their care and concerns during Patricia's stays. In lieu of flowers the family wishes that you make any donations to the Alzheimer's Association, 264 Cottage St., Springfield, MA 01104 or the American Heart Association, Founders Affiliate, P.O. Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241-7005.
Due to the COVID 19 restrictions, there will be no calling hours. A Mass will be held at Holy Name Church, 323 Dickinson Street, Springfield on Wednesday, June 3, 2020 at 10:00 AM. Burial will be private at St. Michael’s Cemetery. www.hafeyfuneralservice.com
