Paul E. Rousseau

Paul Edward Rousseau, 68, of Wilbraham, passed away on Saturday February 17, 2018, in the comfort of his family’s presence at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. Paul was born in Springfield on July 6, 1949, a son of Paul E. and Marion M. (Bombard) Rousseau; he was raised and educated in Springfield and graduated from Cathedral High School. Paul later attended and graduated from Westfield State College in 1971, with a degree in Mathematics. He enjoyed a long career as a Professional Licensed Engineer at Smith Automatic Sprinkler and HFP Sprinkler Inc. in Westfield before retiring in 2013. Paul was a longtime communicant of Holy Cross Church in Springfield where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and visitor for home bound. He was also involved with the Catholic Campaign for Human Development and was on the Advisory Board for the Open Pantry. Paul was a very intelligent man, who valued the smallest and most intricate details of anything he was trying to learn and understand. He was able to pass those values on as a mentor and a teacher, in the pursuit of making people and systems better. Paul is survived by his sisters, Patricia Bagnall, and Janet Burati and by his brother Richard Rousseau, and his wife, Eglal Oghia; three nieces, Sandra Milroy and her husband, Rob, and their children, Aidan, Ronan, and Teagan, Janine Sloth and her husband, Eric and their children, Alexander and Katherine; and Marie-Helene and three nephews, Vincent Bagnall, Jean – Pierre, and Paul Noel; and by his brother in law, Roy Roper of East Longmeadow. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his sister, Carol Roper. Family and friends are invited to meet for calling hours on Thursday February 22nd from 4 – 7 PM at the Hafey Springfield Chapels, 494 Belmont Ave. Springfield. Paul’s funeral ceremony will be held on Friday February 23rd starting at 8:45 AM at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM at Holy Cross Church, 221 Plumtree Rd., Springfield, MA 01118. Committal prayers and burial will follow immediately after the Mass at St. Michael’s Cemetery, 1601 State St., Springfield, MA 01109.
