Philip Ronald Racine

Philip “Phil” Ronald Racine, 88, beloved husband of sixty-three years to Martha (Henderson) Racine, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 14, at the Soldiers Home in Holyoke. Phil was born on May 1, 1929, in Springfield, MA, a loving son of Ephrem and Marion (Gardella) Racine; he was a lifelong resident of Springfield and a graduate of Springfield Trade High School. He served his country honorably as a Radioman in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Phil held a long career that spanned over 40 years as Union Electrician. He was a member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers I.B.E.W. Local 7. Phil started his own electrical contractor company, P. Racine Inc., in 1980. Phil was a parishioner of St. Patrick’s Church in Springfield. He enjoyed many simple pleasures in life such as bike riding and walking, tending to his garden, watching sports and playing with his grandchildren. Phil loved to travel along with his wife, Martha, from his first trip overseas to Ireland to the thirty three cruises over the years, which included his favorite cruise to Russia. He leaves behind his wife, Martha of Springfield and his loving children, Mark Racine of Springfield, and Kathy D’Amario of Longmeadow; sister, Claire Sampson of East Longmeadow; three cherished grandchildren, Justin Racine of Reading, MA, Caitlin Sweeney and her husband, Sean, of Portland, CT, and Ryan D’Amario and his wife, Madison, of Seattle, WA and one great-grandson, Owen D’Amario. A private funeral service with military honors will be held for Phil at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
