Philip L. Thibodeau, 86, of Springfield, passed away Thursday June 28, 2018 at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. Born in Sanford, Maine to the late Ernest and Helen (Moreau) Thibodeau, he was a graduate of St. Ignatius High School in Sanford. Phil served his country honorably in the United States Navy during the Korean War and then received his Master Machinist Apprenticeship in Schenectady, NY. Throughout his career, Phil was the owner of Phil’s Tool Company in West Springfield which later changed names to ProMach, Inc. Philip was dedicated to his industry and business and remained working until the age of 84. He was a longtime communicant of Holy Cross Church in Springfield where he served as a lector and collector of the weekly offerings. Proud of serving his country, Philip attended many yearly reunions with the crew of the U.S.S. Norris. He was the Past Commander of the American Legion Post 21 in Springfield and a member of the Golden Age Harmoni-Cats for many years. He enjoyed bowling where he played with the Tuesday Night Social at Agawam Bowl as well as playing Softball for the Western Mass Relics Senior Softball League. His team members were particularly grateful for his planning, design and construction of bench covers on their field, which they recently dedicated in his name. Philip was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, friend and co-worker and teammate and will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Claire R. (Pilette) Thibodeau of Springfield; his eight children, Peter Thibodeau and his wife Salle of North Branford, CT, Pamela Thibodeau and her husband James Duggan of Buffalo, NY, Edward Thibodeau and his wife Kim of East Longmeadow, Sandra Johnson of Springfield, James Thibodeau of Westfield, Karen Klaczak and her husband Marshall of Longmeadow, Christine Thibodeau and her husband Goel Parboo of East Longmeadow and Michael Thibodeau of Glastonbury, CT; his six siblings, Rose Devarenne, Claire Garrity, Sr. Martha Thibodeau, OSU, Leo Thibodeau, Lucille Thibodeau and Ernestine Lovell; eighteen adored grandchildren, Lauren, Thomas, Jake, Grace, Philip, Joey, Kelsey, Amanda, Megan, Christy, Cole, Natalie, Joseph, Olivia, Julia, Sebastian, Noelle and Nina; three great-grandchildren, Jaidyn, Charles and Olivia; many nieces and nephews and many dear friends and business associates over the years including Luu Nguyen. He was predeceased by six siblings, Ruth, Alma, Cecile, Catherine, Alfred “Pete” and Joseph Henry. Family and friends are invited to meet for calling hours on Monday, July 2nd from 4 – 7 PM at the Hafey Funeral Home, 494 Belmont Ave., Springfield with family remembrances to be shared at 6:30 PM. Philip’s Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, July 3rd at 9:30 AM at St. Patrick’s Church, 1900 Allen St., Springfield with committal services and military honors to follow at 11 AM in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St., Agawam. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Philip’s memory to Holy Cross Church Renovation Fund, 221 Plumtree Rd., Springfield, MA 01118.
