Raymond Lionel Jette, 89, longtime resident of Springfield, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 23, 2020, at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield. Born in Lebanon, New Hampshire to Antonio and Anna (Cote) Jette, he was a graduate of Lebanon High School. He served his country honorably as a Corporal in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Raymond was a hard working and talented carpenter. He learned the value of hard work from a very young age, with his first job in his uncle’s Shoe Shop, repairing shoes. Raymond began his career, after the military, working for the Railroad. He started out as a Brakeman and later worked his way up to Engineer, before leaving after 15 years of service. After leaving the Railroad, he finished his distinguished career working at New England School Supply, before fully retiring as Supervisor in 1993. He was a longtime communicant and devoted parishioner of Holy Name Church in Springfield and lifetime member of the VFW on Tiffany St. He was active at the Hasbro Credit Union, along with their bowling team, and many other of their social clubs. He was an avid stamp collector, enjoyed line dancing, and rooting for his beloved Red Sox and Patriots. He is survived by his beloved wife, of sixty eight years, Marilyn (Lassonde) Jette of Springfield; his children, Stephen P. Jette of Springfield, Barbara Sirard and her husband Albert of Middlefield, MA, Wayne S. Jette of Virginia Beach, VA, and Michael T. Jette and his wife, Tina, of Chester, MA; his siblings, Anita Simonds and Sylvia Apte and her husband Lee, all of Florida, Claire Dow and her husband Raymond and Jeanette Popovsky, all of Merrimack, New Hampshire; 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved daughter, Theresa Bellefeuille in 2014 and by his brother, Paul Jette and sister, Mary Byron. Family and friends are invited to meet for calling hours on Tuesday August 25th from 4 – 7 PM at the Hafey Funeral Home, 494 Belmont Ave., Springfield. Raymond’s funeral will be held on Wednesday August 26th starting at 9:00 am at the funeral home followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at Holy Name Church, 323 Dickinson St., Springfield. Burial with Military Honors will be held in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Springfield. Please wear face masks / coverings throughout the services and follow social distancing guidelines.
