Retired Major Roger Leonard Desrochers, 93, of Springfield, passed away peacefully on Wednesday September 18, 2019 at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield. He was born in Waterbury, CT, youngest of 14 children to the late Ernest B. and Clara (Pomerleau) Desrochers, Roger and his family lived in many different states before settling in Springfield in 1969. Roger was a retired Major from the United States Air Force, serving 20 years active duty honorably during WWII, Korea and Vietnam wars. He was a longtime communicant of Holy Name Church in Springfield. Roger loved woodworking and had a hand in helping all his children working on their homes. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Ann Marie (Lordan) Desrochers in 1994; son, Michael Desrochers in 2015; two daughters, Doreen Hervieux in 2013 and Dale Noel in 2019 and by his thirteen siblings.
He is survived by his two sons, Mark Desrochers and wife Cathy and Matthew Desrochers and wife Natalie, all of Springfield; three daughters, Dianna Desrochers of Springfield, Deborah Courtney and her husband Ray of Wilbraham and Denise Clark and her fiancé Steven Beshara of Chicopee; 18 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews; two sons-in-law, Paul Hervieux of Springfield and Dennis Noel of Bondsville and Maurice Routier who was just like an adopted son to Roger.
Family and friends are invited to meet for calling hours on Wednesday September 25th from 5-8 PM at the Hafey Funeral Home, 494 Belmont Ave., Springfield. Roger’s funeral will be held on Thursday September 26th starting at 9 AM at the Hafey Funeral Home, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 AM at Holy Name Church, 323 Dickinson St., Springfield. Burial with Military Honors will be held in Hillcrest Park Cemetery, Springfield.
