Ronald Andrew Golon, 73, beloved husband of 49 years to Judith L. (Kent) Golon, passed away on Friday, May 31, at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Ronald was born on May 5, 1946, in Springfield, MA, a son of Joseph Charles and Helen Ann (Matuskiewicz) Golon. He was a lifelong resident of Springfield, a graduate of Technical High School, Holyoke Community College and later from American international College with a Bachelor’s degree in accounting. Ronald served his country honorably as a Specialist 5 in the U.S. Army, during the Vietnam War. He was a longtime employee of the United States Postal Service in Springfield. He served as a clerk at the Tapley Street Branch, the Main St. Branch and was currently at the Bulk Mail Center. While at the Post Office, he simultaneously ran the former Springfield Fire Brick Company out of his residence. Ronald was a hardworking, good natured and genuine person, who obtained a great sense of humor and wit. He was dedicated to his wife and family and was a parishioner for many years at the former Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Springfield. Ronald leaves behind his loving wife, Judith L., and children, Ronald W. Golon and his wife, Krystal all of Springfield, and Lori Magalhaes of Hampden; siblings, Elizabeth Golon of Springfield, Helen McElligot of Feeding Hills, Richard Golon of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and Margaret Bovino of Southwick; two grandchildren, Katlyn Golon of Springfield and Michael Magalhaes of Hampden. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his three brothers, Joseph, Robert, and Donald Golon. Family and friends are invited to gather on Thursday, June 6, for calling hours for Ronald from 4-7 p.m. at Hafey Funeral Home, 494 Belmont Ave., Springfield. Ronald’s funeral will be held on Friday, June 7, with a service in the funeral home beginning at 9:45 a.m. followed by committal prayers and burial with military honors at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Agawam.
