Ruth Lillian Bretta, 94, longtime resident of East Longmeadow, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 28, at the Jewish Nursing home in Longmeadow. Ruth was born on August 4, 1924, in Ludlow, MA, a beloved daughter of William and Evelyn (Mayo) Coleman, she was raised and educated in Springfield. Ruth was the beloved wife of Edwin J. Bretta who predeceased her in 1963. She was a compcontroller at the former American Bosch Company in Springfield, and later owned a restaurant off Main St. in Springfield, that played jazz music and had its own art gallery. Ruth continued to work well into her 90’s at the Wilbraham Senior Center. She always showed compassion and kindness towards others and this was returned to her through her care at the Jewish Nursing Home in Longmeadow. Her family thanks A-unit Nurses and Aides, especially, Samantha Barletta, and her special friend, Carol Parker, and shared joy and laughter with Teresa and David Borkowsky. Ruth leaves her loving daughter Kimberlee Bretta of Weston, VT; many nieces and nephews in Washington, D.C. and San Diego, CA, including her special niece, Margaret Talbott. In addition to her parents, Ruth was also predeceased by her brother, William Coleman and sisters, Mildred Johnston and Evelyn Greany. All services for Ruth will be private.
