Ruth Eleanor (Schermerhorn) Tracy

December 1, 1922 ~ April 25, 2018 (age 95)

Ruth Eleanor (Schermerhorn) Tracy, beloved wife of 20 years of Wilbur Tracy who predeceased her in 1986, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 25, at St. Joseph’s Residence in Enfield, CT, at the age of 95. Ruth was born on December 1, 1922, in Springfield, MA, a loving daughter of Elmer D. and Annie G. (Stephenson) Schermerhorn; she was a lifelong resident of Springfield and a graduate of Springfield Technical High School. Ruth was employed for over twelve years as a clerk at Monarch Life Insurance Company in Springfield. Mayor Domenic J. Sarno proclaimed Tuesday, June 6, 2017 as Ruth Tracy Day, for her dedicated service as a volunteer for over forty years at the Springfield Pine Point Senior Center. She received this honor for her services in the Nutrition Program at the Senior Center by the Greater Springfield Senior Services, Inc. Ruth enjoyed many afternoons and evenings relaxing to old movies and musicals and testing her wit with word puzzles, especially jumbles. She leaves behind her sister in law and best friend, who she shared many movies and meals with, Rita Tracy of Enfield, and other sister in law and reliable confidant, Janice Schermerhorn of West Springfield; her nephews, Roy Tracy and his wife, Linda, of Springfield, Robert Tracy and his wife, Jackie, of Dallas, TX, David Schermerhorn of Durham, ME, and Van Schermerhorn of East Longmeadow; nieces, Robin Sadowski and her husband, Paul,  of Agawam and Donna Shaw and her husband, David, of Feeding Hills, Eleanor Randall of Springfield, and Caroline Lemieux of Feeding Hills ; several other nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her brothers, Donald, Harry, and Robert Schermerhorn. Family and friends are invited to gather on Monday, April 30 for a period of visitation from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at Hafey Springfield Chapels, 494 Belmont Ave., followed by a service in the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. celebrating her life. Burial will follow immediately after the service at Pine Hill Cemetery in Westfield.
