Saverio “Sam” P. Giordano, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 14, at the Soldiers Home in Holyoke at the age of 96. Sam was born April 5, 1922, in Little Falls, NY, he was a loving son of Guiseppe and Michelina (Mazzarino) Giordano. He was raised and educated in Springfield and was a 1940 graduate of Springfield Trade High School and later attended Western New England College. Sam served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy as a Seaman First Class, during WW II. After his time in the service, he returned to Springfield and worked at the Springfield Armory, for over 20 years as a tool maker. He would later retire from the Defense Logistics Agency in Springfield, after 16 years of employment as a Quality Assurance Agent. His family wishes to express a special thank you to the nurses and staff of 2 North for their kind and compassionate care. Sam leaves behind his loving daughter, Diane M. Dobrzycki of Somers, CT; his sister, Gloria Carpenter and her husband, Stewart of East Longmeadow; 6 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; his daughter in law, Sandra Giordano of Wilbraham; and by his nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Lois A. (Maynard) Giordano and second wife, Elizabeth (Kot) Giordano; beloved son, Felix C. Giordano and brothers, Jerry P. and Felix P. Giordano. Family and friends are invited to gather on Wednesday, March 20, for a graveside service with military honors at 11 a.m. at St. Michael’s Cemetery (St. Robert section) 1601 State St., Springfield, MA 01109. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sam’s name may be made to the Soldiers’ Home in Holyoke, 110 Cherry St., Holyoke, MA 01040.
