Stella Mary (Capuano) Symanski

August 11, 1920 ~ January 7, 2019 (age 98)

Stella Mary (Capuano) Symanski, 98, beloved wife of Stephen Vincent Symanski, who predeceased her in 1997, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 7, 2019, at Heritage Hall North Nursing Home in Agawam. Born on August 11, 1920, in Springfield, MA, a daughter of Giovanni and Teresa (Ferrentino) Capuano, she was raised and educated in Springfield and was a 1938 graduate of the High School of Commerce and, during WW II, she worked at the Springfield Armory. Stella has resided in Agawam since 1956 and was a longtime parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Church. She was a clerk at the former Kings Department in Agawam and was a talented seamstress. Stella was very proud of her Italian Heritage and loved cooking traditional Italian food, especially during the Christmas holiday. She was a devoted fan of the Boston Red Sox and was an avid reader of historical books and romance novels. Stella valued many things throughout her life, but family was the most important to her. She is survived by her two loving daughters, Donna Mattoon and her husband, Richard Gouvan of Chicopee and Patrice Heaton and her husband, Randy of Feeding Hills; three grandchildren, Jennifer Oyarzun and her husband Ramon of Ellington, CT, Elizabeth Heaton of Feeding Hills and Stephen Heaton of Wilbraham; four great-grandchildren, Nailah, Hassan, Francesca and Ramon “RJ”, Jr. and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, Stephen, she was also predeceased by her six siblings, William, Ralph, Dominick and Thomas Capuano and Rose Kwolek and Cora Santaniello. Family and friends are invited to gather on Monday, January 14, at 10 a.m. at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St., Agawam, for Stella’s committal service. Her husband, Stephen, will also be interred alongside Stella at the cemetery with military honors. There are no calling hours.
