On Saturday, October 3, 2020, Stephen Warren Crabtree, beloved husband, of 50 years, of Rachel (Rossignol) Crabtree, passed away, at the age of 74, after a brief illness at Baystate Medical Center with his family by his side. Stephen was born on October 27, 1945, in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine, a beloved son of Howard and Nancy (Walker) Crabtree. He was raised and educated in Guilford, ME, before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force. He served 4 years in the Air Force with one year in Vietnam. After leaving military life, Steve worked for Pratt and Whitney Aircraft, for over 30 years, as a cost analyst. While working at Pratt and Whitney, he earned his associate degree from Manchester Community College, and later his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from Western New England College, now University. After retirement, Steve continued with his education and became an enrolled agent, later preparing taxes for Farm Bureau, for the past 15 years. While living in Tennessee, Steve was an active parishioner of the Catholic Church of the Good Shepherd in Newport, TN. Steve was an exceptional woodworker, making all kinds of furniture for family and friends. He was gifted with a brilliant mind for numbers and a propensity to retain and solve problems. Steve leaves behind his loving wife, Rachel, of Westfield, and daughters, Amy B. Fearn and her partner, Jeff Scott, of Springfield, Lisa Crabtree-Kelliher and her husband, David, of Agawam, and Laura Crabtree and her partner, Treslan “Toney” Williams of Springfield; nine cherished grandchildren, Matthew, Kara, and Joseph Fearn, Kevin McCollum, Kaitlyn Robitaille, Anthony Kelliher, Marina Kelliher, Alyssa Crabtree and Shaila Crabtree Williams, and one great granddaughter, Scarlett Robitaille; three siblings, Russell Crabtree and his wife, Cathi, Donna Ferris and her husband, Michael, all of Florida, and Sally McNeil and her husband, Bob, of Colorado. Steve also leaves behind his faithful and loving canine companion, Benji. Family and friends are invited to gather on Tuesday, October 6, for visitation for Steve, from 4-7 p.m. at Hafey Springfield Chapels, 494 Belmont Avenue. Steve’s funeral will be held on Wednesday, October 7, beginning at 8:30 a.m. from the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Name Church, 323 Dickinson St., Springfield, MA 01108. Committal prayers and burial with military honors will follow immediately after the Mass in the chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Agawam.
