East Longmeadow - Walter “Mecco” “Skip” Barna, 78, beloved husband of 35 years, of Monica (Zielinski) Barna, passed away on Thursday, August 20, 2020, at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. Born on March 11, 1942, in Ludlow, MA, to Walter Sr. and Sophie (Beluzo), he was raised and educated in Springfield and was a longtime resident of East Longmeadow and was a parishioner of St. Michael’s Church in East Longmeadow. Walter served his country honorably in the U.S. Army as a Specialist 4, during the Vietnam War. He was a longtime Manager at Kakely Lumber in Springfield, where he was one of the biggest dry wall distributors in the area. Walter was a very social and outgoing person, he was a longtime member of the Elks Lodge 61 in Springfield, the ITAM Lodge, and American Legion, both in East Longmeadow and was also a former member of the Melha Shriner’s. Walter was a true sportsman, he enjoyed playing golf whenever and wherever he could. He was an avid candlepin bowler, a very energetic fan of the Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics and Bruins. Besides his loving wife, Monica of East Longmeadow, he is survived by his children, Michael K. Barna and his wife Lynn, Shane A. Trudeau and his wife Kelly all of Westfield, Eric J. Trudeau and his wife Kathleen of Brewster, MA, and Tara Roberts and her husband Michael of Westfield; and by his adored grandchildren, Courtney, Michael, Justine, Zachary, Ava, Noah, Aiden and Myles. Family and friends are invited to meet for a period of visitation on Thursday August 27th from 8:45 – 9:45 AM at the Hafey Funeral Home, 494 Belmont Ave., Springfield, followed by a 9:45 AM service in the funeral home. Committal services with Military Honors will follow at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St., Agawam. Please wear masks/coverings at both the funeral home and the cemetery and follow social distancing guidelines.
