Walter E. Sattler, 91, beloved husband, of 42 years, of Kathleen J. (Killeen) Sattler, who predeceased him in 2001, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 20, at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield with his loving family at his side. Walter was born on October 3, 1928, in Springfield, MA, a loving son of Walter J. and Alice (Clutier) Sattler. He was raised and educated in Agawam and graduated from Agawam High School, later receiving his bachelor’s degree from Ryder University in New Jersey. Walter served his country honorably as a sergeant and tank driver in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a 60 year resident of Longmeadow. Walter was salesman in the automobile business, for over 50 years, at the former Sattler Buick, later known as Houser Buick in Springfield. He served on the Board of Directors for the Springfield Boy’s Club, he was a longtime member of the Springfield Kiwanis, and a member of the Springfield Ski Club. Walter is leaves behind his loving children, E. Myles Sattler and his wife, Gina of East Longmeadow, and Elizabeth F. Herrera and her husband, Richard of San Diego, CA; siblings, Norman Sattler and his wife, Karlene of San Diego, CA, William Sattler of Florida; 4 cherished grandchildren, Anthony, Christopher, Calli, and Rigney; and by his companion of 15 years, Marilyn Hughes of Longmeadow. In addition to his parents and wife, he was also predeceased by his sister, Donna Michula. Family and friends are invited to gather on Sunday, Dec. 22 for a period of visitation for Walter from 4-7 p.m. at Hafey Funeral Home, 494 Belmont Ave., Springfield. Walter’s funeral will be held on Monday, Dec. 23. beginning at 8:45 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 519 Longmeadow St., Longmeadow. Committal prayers and burial with military honors will follow immediately after the Mass at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Springfield.
