William Joseph Barrett, 77, passed away on Friday, January 15, at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. William was born on July 9, 1943, in Lowell, MA, a son of Harry E. and Frances (Dempsey) Barrett. He was raised and educated in Chicopee and was a graduate of Cathedral High School. Bill served his country honorably as Lance Corporal in U.S. Marines Corps., during the Vietnam War. He was later employed as a postal worker at the Bulk Mail Center branch of the U.S. Postal Service in Springfield. Shortly after his retirement, he lived at the Soldier’s Home in Holyoke from 2013 until the present. While at the Soldier’s Home, he formed many friendships by using his great ability to listen. Bill throughout his life was a devout Red sox fan. He leaves behind his beloved sisters, Donna M. Paquin and her husband, Jeffrey of East Longmeadow and Mary F. Deshais of Houston, TX; several nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews and several close friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Patrick Dempsey and Harry Barrett Jr, and sisters, Rita Calaf and Elizabeth Douglas. A private committal service and burial with military honors will be held for Bill at a later date. There are no calling hours.
