Wunita Mae (Tanner) Lagassie, 75, beloved wife of 49 years of Clifford L. Lagassie, who predeceased her in 2013, passed away peacefully, on Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2021, at her home in East Longmeadow with her family at her side. Wunita was born on December 23, 1945, in Charlottesville, VA, the daughter of John and Martha (Cague) Tanner. She was raised and educated in Agawam and graduated from Cathedral High School. Wunita attended the Hartt School of Music in West Hartford, CT. She was employed as a Medical Assistant at Dr. Seiler and Larsen’s office in Agawam, before finishing her career as a Medical Assistant in the Day Stay Surgery Unit at Baystate Medical Center. Wunita was a longtime parishioner at St. Mary’s Church in Longmeadow and was a member of its Ladies Guild and Altar Society. She also volunteered at St. Mary’s School. She leaves behind her loving daughters, Melody L. O’Neill of East Longmeadow, Michelle A. Lagassie of Winter Garden, FL and Renae M. Dallas and her husband, Rowan of Clermont, FL, her cherished grandchildren, Marcus O’Neill, Justin and Tyler Lagassie, Damion, Kimberly, Alexandria, and Tayana Dallas; and great grandchildren, Jaxian and Jaylen Lagassie, Avery Dallas, and Logan Amarante; brother, Allen Tanner and family of Nashville, TN; many beloved nieces and nephews in Maine and North Carolina. Her longtime friend, Mariette Dorsey of Connecticut. Best friend, Anne (Wilson) Ritcheski of Chicago, IL, and by her son in law, Gregorio Malonte of Springfield. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers Donald and Alan Lucas and sister, Patricia Borowski. Special thanks to her dialysis family and Spectrum Home Health Team whom she loved dearly and spent countless hours with as well as the staff of National Ambulance. You all made her days brighter. Family and friends are invited to gather on Saturday, February 13, for a period of visitation for Wunita from 12 Noon - 1 PM at Hafey Springfield Chapels, 494 Belmont Avenue, followed by a service in the funeral home at 1PM.
