Ysabel (Zeitun) Rosario, beloved wife of Alfredo Rosario who predeceased her in 2011, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 14, with the comfort of her family at her side at Mercy Medical Center. Born on January 20, 1931, in Camaguey, Cuba, a daughter of Mahmoud and Faustima (Amer) Zeitun, she was a longtime resident of Springfield. Ysabel was a woman who was loved by her entire family and by anyone who had the opportunity to know her. She was a dedicated wife and devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She had many hobbies and interests that included gardening, whether it was tending to vegetables or growing beautiful flowers. Ysabel also enjoyed her solitary moments watching and feeding the various birds in her backyard. She loved the many trips visiting her daughter, Isabel, in Vermont, and the occasional winnings at the casino in Montreal. Ysabel was a master cook, who won the hearts and stomachs of many, which led her to a lifelong career. She owned and operated her own restaurants in Springfield throughout the years. Ysabel leaves behind her loving children and their spouses, Isabel Smidy of Springfield, William and Carmen Smidy of Belchertown, Maritza Smidy and Jose Guzman-Rios of East Longmeadow and Peter and Theresa Smidy of Springfield; step children, Vicky Melendez and Elmilfred Rosario both of Holyoke; her eight cherished grandchildren, Marisol, Sophia, Peter, Jason, Alexander, Christopher, Jeremy, and Rebecca and four great grandchildren, Maximus, William, Stephen, and Andrew. She also leaves behind many family members in Cuba, Lebanon, Sao Palo, Brazil and Toledo, OH, and by her four legged grandchildren, Tarzan and Sandy. In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by all of her siblings. Family and friends will gather on Monday, Dec. 18, for calling hours for Ysabel from 4-7 p.m. at Hafey Springfield Chapels, 494 Belmont Avenue. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 19, with family and friends meeting directly at St. Anthony Maronite Catholic Church, 375 Island Pond Rd., at 10 a.m. for her Mass.  Committal prayers and burial will follow after the Mass at Hillcrest Park Cemetery.
